Our Story
A Promise Born from Love.
UNFORGOTTEN began with a family, a beloved mother, and a journey that changed everything.
The Heart Behind Our Mission.
Our story is inspired by Penny VanNortwick, a woman whose warmth and kindness touched everyone she knew. When Penny was diagnosed with dementia, her family faced the path ahead with a mix of love, uncertainty, and fierce determination.
Her journey was filled with moments of joy, connection, and challenge. Through it all, her family’s love never wavered. Penny’s experience opened their eyes to the profound need for a supportive community and accessible resources for families navigating the complexities of dementia.
Penny passed away in 2023, but her spirit is the guiding light for everything we do.

Our Founders
Continuing Her Legacy.
Meet the family carrying Penny’s memory forward.
UNFORGOTTEN was founded in 2025 by Penny’s daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Dr. Kevin Barlotta. They channeled their experience into a mission: to ensure no family in Alabama has to walk the dementia journey alone.

Rachel Barlotta
As Penny’s daughter, Rachel provides the heartfelt vision for UNFORGOTTEN. She understands the emotional and practical needs of families firsthand and is dedicated to creating a community of compassion, support, and shared strength.

Dr. Kevin Barlotta
With his professional background and deep personal connection, Kevin brings a steady hand to our advocacy efforts. He is committed to advancing dementia awareness and ensuring that our work is grounded in both empathy and purpose.
Our Commitment to Alabama Families.
We believe that even in the face of dementia, there are opportunities for connection, joy, and peace. UNFORGOTTEN is our promise to honor Penny’s memory by providing resources, raising awareness, and fostering the community that every family deserves.
We are here to walk alongside you.
